?Outsourcing Maintenance: Is It Worth It

With the economic industry the way that it is at the moment, a lot more companies are looking for different ways to run. In this case, the use of the word, 'different' is meant to mean cheaper.
Companies are cutting down the number of employees that they have, but they are still able to get their job done on time. You might be wondering how they are doing this. Well, the answer is outsourcing their work

What is outsourcing?

Outsourcing is where the company will hire a person on a job-to-job basis. They won't work within the company and they won't have a contract with the company. They will just do the work for which they were hired to do and then they will move on to the next job.
This is a benefit to companies in a struggling market because they won't be contracted to pay a contract even when there is no work. They will just pay the worker for the job and then they will hire someone else for the next job. It is possible to form a relationship with a worker and some companies might hire the same person over and over, but only when there is work.
Maintenance
Some companies are outsourcing their maintenance needs because they can't afford to hire a whole department to fix computers and software when there is no guarantee that something will go wrong.
Software companies tend to include maintenance in the price of their software because they are able to repair software remotely, without sending a technician to the premises

How will this work?

The software company will give the company some log in details when they buy the software. There will then be a page on the website where the company can sign in and raise a query with the software company. That is called 'submitting a ticket.'
Then, the software company will have 24-hours to respond to the ticket, but if systems are offline, they will try to reply sooner. Then, the company will give them the details of the master computer, so that they can fix the problem (resolve the ticket).
The company may also offer a 'Troubleshooting' section on their website where you can ask a question and there will be an answer to your problem. There detailed instructions for how you can fix the problem yourself if you are competent with computers and their software.
Full Maintenance
Other software companies will offer a full maintenance package where they will attend at the premises and have a look at the software regardless of its state. They will clean computers, offer upgrades and even put into place preventive measures if they know that other companies have had the same issues with the same software.
Full maintenance packages are usually offered at an extra cost to software companies, but they will also offer an all-inclusive package for clients that are actually buying the software at the same time.
If companies cannot afford the maintenance packages but they express an interest in it, then the software company should offer them a subscription service so that it is more affordable.
Choice
You don't have to buy a maintenance package for the software to run correctly, you do have a choice and you might feel like the support features that provides with the software which is sufficient for you.
However, you should weigh the costs up against the cost of having system downtime or the system not completing processes swiftly. You should also think about the costs of hiring your own maintenance team and the compare it to the software company costs.
