Avoid Signature Forgery With Online Signature Software

Signature forgery

You must have heard or read about signature forgery, which is as a crime. When someone signs another party's name in a document to deceive others it is called signature forgery and it is a serious crime. When someone signs a cheque which does not belong to him then it is also considered as a case of signature forgery.

Several master minds are working behind signature forgery and lot of crimes are being committed as well. There are simple ways to copy a signature for different benefits. People use tracing paper to copy a signature and use it in different other document as per their wish.

Freehand is another method to forge a signature but it is difficult to master. Every person has a style of signing. When a signature is copied without scanning or tracing paper then the signature needs to be studied very well. Later it has to be written exactly the way the original signature is written.

Any online signature software creates a matched pair of keys, which makes it secure. It is called the "private" key, and it is installed on your computer. The private key is used by you and is needed during the signing process. This key is only used by the user.

The software gives another key which is called the "public" key. The public key is used by anyone who wishes to authenticate documents that you sign. The public key will generally be "read" by the digital signature that has been created by the private key. It verifies the authenticity of documents created with it. It is almost like accessing a safe locker deposit where your key should work with the bank's key before opening the box.

The private key which you have is encrypted and then stored on your computer. As you sign an electronic document, you submit a digital signature Authorization Code to decrypt the private key for as long as it takes to sign the document.
Now anyone may learn your Authorization Code and gets an access to the computer holding your private key. In such a scenario the integrity of your private key is compromised. Then you have to revoke your digital signature certificate and obtain another. It is like reporting anything as stolen or lost.
Now a question arises that can a digital signature be forged. The answer to this is that, not likely. An electronic signature is protected by various layers of highly complex encryption.

With digital signature, forgery is very difficult and it is much more difficult than forging a handwritten signature. A digital signature is like a process than just affixing a signature. For example, when a document gets "digitally signed," the online signature software has to scan the documents. While scanning it creates a calculation which represents the signed document.

This calculation becomes an important part of the "digital signature." Now the recipient has to authenticate the signature and a similar process is carried out. The calculation of the sender and that of the receiver is compared. Once the results are same, the signature is considered as valid. If they are different, the signature is not valid.
